a Nigerian ride-hailing startup that’s built for women. Changing the narrative one ride at a time

Launching the First Women-for-Women Ride-Hailing Company in Nigeria
Location: Africa
Business: Female driver ride-hailing
Solution: Emaa Platform
Fleet Size: 48 female drivers
HerRyde created a female-only ride-hailing service, achieving two goals at once: catering to a specific group of people and securing their place in the ride-hailing market while changing the narrative of what it means to be a taxi business.
About the Company
Launched in August 2022 in Nigeria’s capital Abuja, HerRyde is the first women-for-women ride-hailing company in Nigeria. Founded by CEO Monsurah Oluwafuyi, COO Muhammad Muazu, and Chief Product Officer Kamaldeen Ibrahim, HerRyde addresses safety and discrimination issues faced by women using traditional ride-hailing services. Both passengers and drivers are exclusively women.
How it All Began
The founders were inspired by personal experiences and concerns for female safety while traveling. HerRyde provides a safe alternative for women, and the idea quickly gained media attention, including a mention at the World Economic Forum and coverage by Reuters.
Challenges and Solutions
The primary challenge was finding enough female drivers to meet demand. HerRyde addresses this by partnering with companies that provide cars on friendly terms and helping women purchase vehicles. By leading with a successful example, the company encourages more women to join the industry.
Looking Into the Future
Less than half a year after launch, HerRyde plans to expand to Lagos and Kano, with long-term ambitions to grow across Africa. The goal is to ensure women everywhere can have a safe taxi experience while participating in the ride-hailing industry.
